I run at night. For those who run at night, stay as visible as possible. I wear a reflective vest that is conducive to perspiration to keep me dry. Stay as visible as possible; know your territory; recognize suspicious things. I run at night, because it is quiet and most relaxing. Plus, I like running in the cold. Good luck to all! 8-)

Running Tips: Scary Dogs!
Oh my! I just had a scary run! Two VERY big and mean acting dogs broke lose from a woman holding them. They came charging at me and my dog (on a leash). Things looked VERY bad! Each of those dog was twice as big looking as my female german shepherd. Here is my running tip for what to do if this happens to you. I learned it from the Dog Whisperer TV show...Cesar is awesome and I think he saved my dog's life with his advice for walking and running with your dog and a bad dog approaches.
These dogs were charging us as we were running. I stopped and held my dog close and made two very "strong" steps toward the two other dogs, pointed my arm at them and made a very sharp "hiss" sound...they stopped dead in their tracks 20 feet away! I frozed right there as their owner came to get them! That running tip from the Dog Whisperer saved our bacon I think!

I'm a beginning runner, so your tips have been very helpful for me! One of my own is setting mini-goals, i.e.--When I am running, feeling tired and ready to walk, I look up ahead and pick a landmark (driveway, road sign, etc.) and tell myself I will allow myself to walk if I make it to that landmark. Then if I run to it, I feel good. If I run past it, I feel REALLY good! From then on, I set my landmark a little further ahead every few days or weekly. That way I am slowly building up my stamina!
[From Admin: I have used that same running tips myself! I run in an area with a lot of trees...I used to just keep picking a tree farther and farther away for my speed work...great running tip!]
Do you have any tips for shin splints? I was getting them pretty badly earlier in the summer. They've dissipated, but I feel a twinge every now and again.
Thanks for the great ideas!

It's easy, just put one foot in front of the other...and don't stop.
No matter how slow you are there's always someone slower...and...no matter how fast you are there's alway someone faster.
Always run for yourself
{From Admin: Thanks for the great running tips! I like it!}

I LOVE running! Here are some thoughts and running tips which may help you enjoy it like I do!
• Always have some goals in mind and work for them
• Find a buddy to run with!...dogs work too!
• Subscribe to Runner’s World magazine.
• No, you are not a wimp if you have to walk
• Buy powdered Gatorade for summer running…its cheaper!
• Yes, many runners DO drink soft drinks…there are worse vices!
• You are not the ONLY one who has trouble getting up in the mornings!
• Running tips are just tips….not set in stone!
• Never raced before? Go WATCH a race before signing up. You’ll know what to expect then.
• Got a side cramp? Think about something else for a minute. They go away!
• Running tips 101…take them all with a few grains of salt. Tips which work for me may not work for you!
• Check your cable guide for running events…very inspiring!
• If hills hurt your hamstrings, don’t do them! Running hills is a common running tip, but they are not required to be a good runner.
• Spend at least SOME time running on dirt or grass.
• It is normal for your lower abs to be sore from running at first.
• So what if you run a 30 minute 5k…how many people can say at least that!
Please fill out the form at the bottom of the page with your own running tips!
