Sportcraft Treadmills
Sportcraft treadmills have quality expected that of a mass produced product. It’s typically a low end and low quality machine. This is due to the fact that it was designed to for massive distribution. It utilizes K- Mart, Wal Mart and Target to distribute its products to the public. All of this began with a certain Mr. Walter Holdstein; he was the founder Sportcraft Ltd in 1926. The company started out with primarily producing indoor and outdoor games such as table tennis and tetherball and still continues production all of these games today. Over the years, there has been a rise in health awareness all over the world. This causes an increase in the demand for home exercise equipment. But it wasn't until 2001 that Sportcraft began producing Sportcraft treadmills and began shipping them. There plan was mass production at affordable rates. This plan worked, but Sportcraft treadmills didn’t live up to the expectation.
All Sportcraft treadmills are made in either China or Taiwan. This would be because of the cheap labor in those countries. In this case, looks can be deceiving. Sportcraft treadmills are made surprisingly appealing to the eyes, but quality is a whole new story. Materials used in construction are inadequate which leads to poor build quality. Mass producing without proper Q & A and with lack of safety measures has proven to be costly to the company.
In the following years, there were recalls for three lines Sportcraft treadmills. Incident reported that these machines suddenly accelerated without reason and endangered the users of the treadmill. There were more than a hundred recalls in a span of about two years. It seems that selling low quality treadmills that malfunction and are hazardous to users have also become hazardous to the company.
However, their products aren’t necessarily that bad. Sportcraft treadmills do offer a number of features and positive aspects despite of its low price. It features a power inclination system, a strong motor for its price bracket. The Sportcraft treadmills high end model is the Sport Craft TX795. This model is equipped with a 3.0 HP motor for a speed up to 12MPH.It has a power incline feature which is controlled by a One-touch buttons control panel. The TX795 tread belt is 19.5x57" and has a cushioned deck which supports weight up to 300 lbs. Programming includes six t built in workouts and grip pulse system which gives readouts of heat rate along with displays of time, distance, and number of laps. It also has a fold away system for easy storage.
However all of these features are still plagued by a poor electronic design. Sportcraft treadmills were seemed to be hastily made, disregarding many possible design problems that could eventually cause problems to the machine and even to the user. It seems that consumer safety wasn’t the priority of the company when they designed Sportcraft treadmills.
Warranty wise, Sportcraft treadmills offer ten years for the frame, but one year for all other parts. This only shows poor confidence on the product by the company. It is as if they confirmed the claims that their product has very poor build quality. They should have offered more years for the warranty, especially on the moving parts.
Sportcraft treadmills are what you expect from cheaply and hastily made products. Mass production has truly brought the products quality way down. Basing on its features, it could have had great potential, but it seems that the company disregarded opportunity. There are clearly a lot better treadmills available on the market with more features which are worth the price. Before buying, further consult other reviews and see the machine personally.
